SWAT expands TASKING’s timing analysis portfolio with the addition of software tracing

SWAT elevates embedded system debugging capabilities with timing analysis when hardware trace is not possible.

Munich, Germany, 8 July 2025 – TASKING introduces its software trace tool SWAT, a new software tracing solution designed for embedded systems. This expands TASKING’s Timing Analysis portfolio by enabling real-time profiling even on microcontrollers without hardware trace capabilities. This brings the company one step closer to its vision of covering all necessary debug features in the embedded software development workflow.

Timing analysis plays a key role when developing real-time safety systems. TASKING has been a proven supplier of hardware trace solutions for many years. However, not all microcontrollers come equipped with hardware trace capabilities. Additionally, design constraints sometimes prevent using trace pins or dedicated hardware.

For cases where vendors offer emulation devices, TASKING offers emulation adapters which can assist in early development. But due to size limitations, board space, and additional complexity of the setup, these adapters are not a viable solution in all situations.

Software tracing offers an efficient method of recording runtime behavior with minimal overhead: The new SWAT does not require any additional hardware but uses the existing debug interfaces of the iC7pro or iC7max. It is easy to set up and use, which makes integration straightforward.

Availability

TASKING’s SWAT is available now. Further information can be found online.

Webinar

For those interested, TASKING will host product release webinars on 17 July 2025. Roger Smith, Senior Technical Marketing Manager, will present the capabilities of the new SWAT tool for different regions: For the EMEA region the webinar will take place at 1pm CEST, for the US at 1pm EST. About TASKING

TASKING is a leading provider of embedded software development tools, primarily serving safety-critical applications. Founded in 1977, the Company has a rich history of developing performance-driven compilers and integrated development environments (IDEs) that enable manufacturers and Tier‑1 suppliers to create safety-critical applications that are innovative, reliable, and high performance. Today, TASKING continues to expand its portfolio and capabilities through acquisitions that broaden its offerings to include advanced debugger, software trace, and analysis tools. This constant strategic growth makes TASKING a trusted partner for embedded software development tools and services. TASKING has a strong position in safety-critical markets with applications, such as automotive, industrial and aerospace among others. Focusing on trust, customer orientation, expertise and a strong commitment to sustainability, TASKING empowers embedded software engineers to develop reliable, high-performance applications for a safer future.
