Ensuring Safety and Compliance for Assisted Devices

NOW Tech­nolo­gies devel­oped the Gyroset Glory head­set, which allows users to con­trol their com­put­er and, when com­bined with Gyroset Link, drive their power wheel­chairs. While ear­li­er ver­sions were not sub­ject to func­tion­al safe­ty stan­dards, upcom­ing autonomous fea­tures made com­pli­ance with IEC 62304:2006, EN 60601, and ISO 7176 essen­tial. The team need­ed a reli­able way to strength­en soft­ware safe­ty, secu­ri­ty, and com­pli­ance process­es with­out adding exces­sive cost or com­plex­i­ty.

Automating Compliance with Proven Tools

NOW Tech­nolo­gies select­ed LDRArules to auto­mate com­pli­ance with MISRA C:2012 and sup­port adher­ence to IEC 62304 require­ments. The SGS-TÜV Saar cer­ti­fi­ca­tion of LDRArules reduced qual­i­fi­ca­tion effort sig­nif­i­cant­ly, while its ease of instal­la­tion and intu­itive inter­face min­i­mized train­ing over­head. In addi­tion to pro­vid­ing the best tech­ni­cal solu­tion, the tool offered a cost-effec­tive way to improve both safe­ty and secu­ri­ty in develop­ment.
